Jill Cooper
With sadness that we learnt of Jill Cooper’s death at the beginning of April 2025. Jill, together with her husband, was instrumental in a group who founded the orchestra in February 1977, as somewhere that would welcome schoolchildren and adults to play orchestral music.
Jill continued to contribute to the orchestra, playing viola or violin as needed until arthritis forced her to retire from playing. However, she remained a loyal supporter, turning up to all our concerts and encouraging her students to join us.
Extremely talented, approachable and friendly, she enjoyed sharing her love of music with many generations in Wantage and frequently hosted informal playing sessions at home where musicians of all ages played together.
At our concert on Saturday 5 July 2025 some of Jill's artwork will be available and for sale, with proceeds to the orchestra.
